The Midlands Irish Setter Society was founded in 1981 as a new regional club for Irish Setter exhibitors in the midlands. Initially we ran companion shows and matches and other social events. The Kennel Club granted the society recognition in 1982 and we were able to hold two open shows a year. Our first open show was judged by Maureen Hurll and held at the Archbishop Grimshaw school, Solihull. In 1986 we were granted championship show status, and since then have run one championship and one open show annually.
The committee has comprised an average of 15 members including officers and our president. Our first president was the late Miss Sybil Lennox, who was also a founder member.
Over the years the club has organised talks, seminars and a sponsored walk in aid of the health fund.
We celebrated our 25 year anniversary at the championship show in 2007, which included a parade of champions.
The society will continue to work to meet the needs of its many members, exhibitors and supporters into the future.
